Master Disaster: Complex Humanitarian Emergency in a Low-Resource Setting Exercise for EMTs-Paramedics
During this full-day simulation of a complex humanitarian emergency, participants will be divided into small groups and presented with several real-life challenges, including the evaluation of multiple refugee camps, an onslaught of media attention, ethical dilemmas, and a mass casualty incident requiring wilderness medicine and acute disaster management. With the help of small group leaders, participants will navigate each hands-on, interactive exercise, taking away valuable and practical lessons. The day's activities will culminate into a final presentation to be delivered by each group at a simulated United Nations Cluster meeting. Activities will take place in an outdoor, austere environment with all necessities provided, including portable toilet facilities, food, water and medical services.
